Double Header Friday with the Sounders Women and Sounders U23 chasing post season
The Sounders Women are chasing a playoff spot and the game this Friday July 7th at 5pm against OSA could help decide who heads on in this seasons WPSL playoffs. Immediately following this game, the Sounders U23 will take on the Victoria Highlanders at 8pm as they chase points in the 2017 PDL playoff race. Both games will be played at Sunset Stadium in Sumner with a pre-match clinic before both at 3pm.
The Sounders Women are in a heated battle with OSA and NSGSC for the playoff spot in the WPSL Northwest Division. The game against OSA will determine who stays in the fight with a tough NSGSC team nipping at the heels of the top teams in the division. The scenarios are many but one thing is for sure, the Sounders Women must win in order to have a chance at the post season. Nia Gordon leads the Sounders Women with 4 goals and 1 assist followed closely by Maddy Schultz with 3 goals. Kaycie Tillman has also made her presence felt with 2 goals and 1 assist on a solid season.
Needing help for playoff contention heading into the final regular season home game for the 2017 PDL season, the Sounders U23 sit in third place in the PDL NW Division. Calgary Foothills sit in first place with a red-hot Portland Timbers U23 team right behind them. Portland and Calgary face off twice next week with the Sounders U23 close behind in a division where two teams make the playoffs. The Sounders U23 team play two away games at TSS Rovers and at Victoria Highlanders to finish the 2017 regular season next week in Canada. The PDL Northwest Division playoff spots will likely come down to the final games of the regular season. Miguel Berry has scored twice in the past three games for the Sounders U23 and Derek Johnson is having an all-star year for the team.
The Friday July 7th double header brings drama for both the Sounders Women and Sounders U23 teams. The Sounders Women have helped over 50 players advance into the professional and national team ranks and the Sounders U23 team has helped more than 65 players do the same. Come check out the young guns in green this Friday in a two-game showcase!
The Pre-Match Clinic registration as well as tickets for the double header can be found at www.sounderu23.com and www.sounderswomen.com. A ticket or clinic registration for either team allows entry for both games in the double header.
