Sounders Women kick off home stand

Sounders Women open home stand with ISC Gunners then Capital Timbers

The Sounders Women opened the 2017 WPSL season with a win in Vancouver, BC over NSGSC.   The women now turn their sites on the opening two home games of the year.  The women will play ISC Gunners on Friday, June 2nd at Sunset Stadium in Sumner at 7:30pm.  They will turn around and play Capital Timbers on Sunday, June 4th at Starfire Sports at 2pm.

The ISC Gunners have opened the year hot with 3-0-1 record after dispatching Westside Metros, Capital Timbers, and FCM Portland on their road trip to Oregon this past week.  Macy Jo Harrison leads the team in scoring with 3 goals and 2 assists.   Gareth Vaughn returns as the head coach.

With a young local team, led by head coach Eduardo Soboll, the Capital Timbers started slow this past week in the WPSL with losses to ISC Gunners and Westside Metros.  The team will look to rebound against a strong Sounders Women side this Sunday.

Head Coach Kim Calkins has assembled a strong 2017 roster and this was evident with the three goal barrage up in Canada this past week.   Maddy Schultz hammered home 2 goals in the game with Nia Gordon grabbing a goal as well.  With the double header weekend in front of them, coach Calkins looks forward to the games.

“The team is looking forward to our first two home games this weekend after a decent away trip to Canada last weekend,” said Calkins, “We will always look to improve and face each team as a new challenge to get better, individually and collectively.”
