The Sounders Women continued their incredible start to the 2018 WPSL season with two more wins on the road in Oregon over June 9th and 10th. An 8-1 win at Westside Timbers in Portland was followed with a 2-1 win Eugene in what proved to be a close game for the first time this year.
In the opening minute of the game versus Westside Timbers, the Sounders Women were surprised and went down 0-1 to start the game. With the shock of giving up an early goal, the women in green immediately responded with a goal from Bethany Balcer that led to another onslaught of Sounders Women goals. Aleea Gwerder and Gina Crossetti smashed home goals and Nia Gordon hit another on the year to bring the game to 4-1.
Georgia Cloepfil and Makenna Carr would then find some rhythm and combine for two more goals with Cloepfil finishing two Carr assists to bring the game to 6-1. Carr would add one of her own and Holly Fritz dished an assist to India Jencks to end the game at 8-1.
The Sounders Women would then have to travel quickly from Portland to Eugene for a 2pm game against Eugene Timbers FC Azul less than 24 hours after pounding the Westside Timbers. Prolific scorer, Morgan Weaver, would find the net in the 25th minute for the Sounders Women and Nia Gordon would hammer home her second on the weekend to go into halftime 2-0. A late 75th minute goal from Eastside Timber FC Azul would make the game interesting but ultimately, the Sounders Women came home late Sunday night with all six points on the weekend.
The Sounders Women play at TSS Rovers Women on June 17th and the home schedule resumes later this month on June 30th at Starfire Sports Stadium against OSA. Tickets can be purchased at the gate and the Sounders Women full schedule can be found at . Come check out the #RELOADED Sounders Women!
