The 2018 #Reloaded Sounders Women unleashed their weapons on THUSC Diamonds on Friday night, May 25th at Starfire Sports Complex scoring 10 goals in the opening WPSL game. The Women followed the dominating performance with an 11-0 shellacking of the WPFC Women’s team in a friendly match at Sunset Stadium in Sumner, Washington.
May 25th marked a double header evening at Starfire Sports Stadium with a large crowd, beer garden, and back to back games with the Sounders Women playing at 5pm and the Sounders U23 team playing at 7:30pm. The women wasted little time with recent US Women’s U23 National Team call up, Morgan Weaver, smashing the net first. Aleea Gwerder added another and the Sounders Women were on a tear. Dominating in every statistical category, Pascale Dumesil added a goal and Nia Gordon punched in two more. Olivia Van der Jagt also scored two goals and Abi Kim got in the act to bring the total to 8 goals on the night. Not to be outdone, India Jencks and Mireya Grey tallied the final two goals to end the game 10-0 in favor of the host Sounders Women.
With less than 24 hours rest, head coach Scott Ford rolled out his ladies in green to take on local set up WPFC Women in a friendly at Sunset Stadium in Sumner on Saturday, May 26th. Taking off where they left the previous night, Nia Gordon dropped a 30 yard worm burner to open the scoring 22 seconds into the game. Weaver popped a second in for the women taking the lead 2-0 into half time.
The second half saw the Sounders Women open with a higher level and the score line would grow. Grey found another on the weekend and Georgia Cloepfil added another goal. Bethany Balcer, Dimensil, and Makenna Carr scored as well, but Weaver put her stamp on the game scoring 4 second half goals to bring her total to five in the game and 6 on the weekend.
With 21 goals in the opening weekend, the Sounders Women look to be a formidable force in the WPSL NW Division in 2018. Next up for the women is a trip to Oregon and a 2 game weekend over June 9th and 10th. The women return to play their next home game on June 30th at Starfire Sports Stadium against OSA Women.
Tickets can also be purchased at the gate and the Sounders Women full schedule can be found at www.sounderswomen.com. Come check out the #RELOADED Sounders Women!
